I would go back, but without kids in the evening for some drinks to enjoy the view.
Cons-
The view is gorgeous. The oysters weren't great, but everything else was. I didn't expect it to be a fast casual restaurant, but was pleasantly surprised at the very relaxed atmosphere.
Food is always delicious (high priced, small portions, and long wait times.. but delicious.)
How well you like The Gulf depends on what you are looking for. If you are looking for fine dining, this isn't it. The food is good but the menu is simple and limited. But if you are looking for a place to relax on the Gulf with great views and outdoor seating, you can't beat it. It does get very busy during the summer and on weekends.
Bartender Jason is THE WORST. He was so rude to me that I sent my friend to get our drinks and he was so rude to her that she didn't tip for the first time in her life. I asked him for a drink menu and his reply was, "it's on the BIG chalk board RIGHT as you walk in." complete with eye-roll and immediate dismissal.
I took an infant and a 3 year old on a Friday afternoon and it was kid friendly. Lots of people there with families. I can imagine it's probably crowded in the evening and wouldn't take kids as it seems like more of a bar at that time.
I would easily recommend this The Gulf.
Love this place. When we're in Alabama every year we manage to get here 2or 3 times per trip. The food is amazing and fresh and the drinks are a nice solid pour. The atmosphere takes it to another level entirely.
Great place overall for a better than most experience. Beach dining w/ bar-style tables, picnic tables & couch lounging, it has a casually inviting & fun atmosphere. It cam be a tad pricey but worth it for the vacation fun or date wow factor. Burger is great, got mine w/ bacon which was good quality & flavorful. Jerk Chicken Skewers were really nice too, and thw kid's chicken tenders is big enough to fill a grown man!
Pros-
The view and atmosphere is truly unbeatable
We ended up dumping our $10 drinks because they were nothing but ice and sugar (whiskey ain't an easy taste to cover up so my bet is there wasn't much in there, if any.)
The gift shop is really cute with good gifts. Reminded me of Anthropologie, with unique things you don't see everywhere.
